Dreamweaver
Posted by: | CommentsI used Dreamweaver for many years to create my sites. I am good with it and know it very well. HOWEVER, for new folks, the learning curve there is HUGE. In fact, I no longer use it for creating my sites; I use WordPress now. But I still use Dreamweaver for creating squeeze pages, etc. It is nice to have it as a tool for creating snippets of HTML as you need them. For example, for my article bio’s I use Dreamweaver to quickly create the html code for the link that’s inserted in the bio. There are always things here and there I use it for still. However, the average site owner will do just fine with WordPress as their sole tool.
WordPress For Making Web Pages
Posted by: | CommentsWordPress is the simplest way for the average person to build a great looking website. Although the default install of WordPress is not entirely search engine friendly, there are free plugins that can be added to make it the perfect and all around site building tool that the search engines AND humans will love.
Hosting Your Site
Posted by: | CommentsYour web site’s host is where your web pages will be stored and served out onto the web. There are many hosts to chose from. Some are better than others. Since I have switched entirely now to using WordPress, I only use HostGator for the new sites I create. They are 100% compatible with WordPress. Some hosts, like GoDaddy, have issues with various plugins (as in THEY DON’T WORK!). HostGator is low prices, very reliable and I LOVE their chat support system.
Buy Your Domain
Posted by: | CommentsBuying a domain is the first step in the process of building a web site. Many people put too much energy into choosing just the “right” domain name. Sure, it’s important, but this step is very tiny compared the rest. It is good if you can get a keyword or two in your domain name, but do not force it so that it sounds funky and/or spammy. Keep it as short as possible and easy to spell. Choose the .com version if at all possible (just because people will remember it better…Google does not care).
