Luis Vidal
Forestry Fellow
Sierra Corps
Luis Vidal is a Sierra Corps Forestry Fellow hosted by a partnership of three organizations: American Forests, the Eldorado National Forest and the Sierra Nevada Alliance, with funding from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and the Bella Vista Foundation. In his position as a Forest Restoration Fellow, he focuses on the restoration and reforestation of the 2014 King Fire that burned 97,000 acres. This work includes on-the ground field surveying of previously planted seedlings, preparing sites for climate-smart planting and implementing those plans. Luis’s work directly increases the capacity of American Forests and the Eldorado National Forest to scale up climate-smart reforestation tools, including more detailed monitoring. Luis graduated in 2018 from the University of Utah with a degree in geology, and shortly thereafter worked for a year as a hydrology intern on the Plumas National Forest. Luis is now in his second year with the Sierra Corps program.
