John Caltagirone

John is a strong leader of change, with over 35 years of experience in supply chain management, logistics and technology. He has a proven track record of achieving positive change and measurable results through strategic planning and execution, as well as the implementation of modern supply chain programs. He has been involved in developing Lean supply chains and operational strategies, and directing the re-engineering effort of business processes, with a focus on enhancing the value added component of each task so that customer satisfaction levels can be increased.
John is the Founding and Executive Director of the Business Leadership Hub (which consists of six research centers and two student groups) and Supply Chain and Sustainability Center at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business, where he is also an Executive Lecturer on Global Supply Chain Management courses in the Executive MBA, MBA and MSSCM Programs. John is also the founder of The Caltagirone Group, a supply chain management consulting and benchmarking firm, has been the Vice President and National Practice Leader of Global Supply Chain Strategy for The Revere Group, an NTT Data company and previously held the position of Senior Vice President, Chief Logistics and Operations Officer for Peapod, Inc., where he was responsible for distribution services, inventory management, purchasing, transportation management, logistics engineering and customer service. John has held senior management positions with the following companies: Rand McNally, RR Donnelley & Sons and Ryder Integrated Logistics.
John holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from Loyola University Chicago.
John has been published and quoted in several publications such as Supply Chain Management Review, Supply Chain Brain, Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies, Operations & Fulfillment magazine, Food Logistics, Refrigerated & Frozen Foods magazine, Traffic World, and Refrigerated Transporter, and is a frequent speaker at professional organizations and universities on supply chain management, logistics, and e-Business. His list of speaking engagements include: Hadley Waters Symposium, e-Food, Keynote Speaker for Retail Systems & VICS, International Association of Refrigerated Warehouses and World Food Logistics Organization, Brazilian Wholesaler Grocery Association, Net-Fulfillment, E-Commerce Leadership Summit, Logistics Leaders Forum, Logistics and Distribution Institute, Distribution Business Management Association’s Warehouse of the Future, Internet Executives Club e-Business Symposium and e-Logistics - Capitalizing on Web Technology for Optimal Supply Chain Performance. He was recognized as a Supply Chain Emissary in Supply Chain Management Review’s “Profiles in Leadership” series.
John is a member and past president of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Chicago Roundtable and executive committee member. While on the National Executive Committee for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, John was the Chairperson and spearheaded the development of the internationally distributed video, “Logistics, Careers With a Challenge.” John was also the Chairperson and spearheaded the effort to produce a new film for Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. The DVD, which came out in 2005, is entitled “What In The World Is The Global Supply Chain?” In 2005, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals awarded John, the first ever Life Time Achievement Award, for advancing Supply Chain Management Education through film. John served on the Board of Directors for the Council of Supply Chain Management professionals and oversaw all CSCMP programs worldwide. He is a former board member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society, a former member of the Warehouse Education and Research Council (WERC), and a former member of the Supply – Chain Council, where he served on the Supply Chain Operations Research Technical Steering Committee.
John was on the Manufacturing Technology and Management Overview Committee for the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and was an adjunct faculty member at IIT, teaching Global Supply Chain Management and Manufacturing and Logistics Information Systems, was on the University of Oklahoma Logistics and Supply Chain Executive Panel, has been a faculty member for Penn State University Executive Programs, was a faculty member for the University of Louisville Executive Programs, was on the Advisory Board for the UPS Center for Worldwide Supply Chain Management for the University of Louisville, has taught Supply Chain Benchmarking and Strategic Warehouse Management at Elmhurst College, was on the faculty and Advisory Board for the Graduate Program in Supply Chain Management at Elmhurst College, is on the Editorial Advisory Board for Supply Chain Management Review magazine and was appointed an instructor of Supply Chain Management to the UPS management team.
